Head of Community

Our flagship product is the WAX mobile app that removes the complexity of traditional insurance and the extensive paperwork that comes along with it. With the WAX app, users can take photos of their items and get a quote in real time. WAX also makes it easy for clients to catalog and manage their collections in one place, as well as adjust their coverage and file a claim without having to pick up the phone and call their provider. Location:  WAX is headquartered in New York City; we are a remote-first company with employees distributed across the United States & Canada.  While the role is primarily remote, there will be moderate periodic travel to support various community initiatives.  

Summary:  WAX is looking for a Head of Community to elevate our brand, grow existing engagement with our customers and expand our relevance into specific collectible categories. The role will be pivotal in building upon a very active collector community within the following collectible categories:  Timepieces, Trading Cards, Sports Memorabilia, Handbags, Comic Books, Jewelry, Art, and Sneakers.  In addition, candidate should be comfortable operating in a fast-paced InsurTech startup culture.  The ideal candidate would be an individual who is well versed with community building, public relations, content creation, general project management, event planning & has familiarity or expertise in Insurance, Lending, & Collectible space.  As one of the early team members, you will serve as the leader of our outreach and presence in collectible community circles in addition to ad hoc support of project delivery.  This can range from organizing collector dinners, trade shows, product research and everything in-between.   


  • Define our strategy to acquire, engage and retain collector communities; develop conversation starters, campaigns & content to engage collectibles market.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with collectors across multiple collectible categories in which we can offer complimentary value as an InsurTech company that has aspiration to become THE financial institution for collectors.  
  • Chief Meme Officer – learn to speak the same language as collectors across multiple collectible categories; inspire with humor, knowledge, and joy.  
  • Develop social media strategy by setting the right tone for the brand across multiple platforms.
  • Actively engage with interesting collectors online and in the real world so we can learn from each other, debate how and where various collectible categories are heading, educate, get inspired, and have some fun while doing it
  • Conduct outreach / develop partnerships with influencers, collectors, and other collectible communities with the genuine intent to be a contributor that puts in as much as they take out.
  • Strategize, organize and execute WAX led collector events or initiatives, trade shows and company retreats across the US.
  • Actively engage with collectible publications & newsletters
  • Ad-hoc project delivery support that will span from marketing to operations
  • Help organize our investor relation communications and PR


  • 10+ years working on community initiatives, participating in and/or in collectibles space
  • A track record of conceptualizing strategic plans for a department, and working internally to drive adoption and execution of plans
  • A collaborative leader able to work closely with many cross-functional stakeholders in a quickly evolving environment
  • Deeply passionate about social media, but especially proficient at Instagram, TikTok, Discord, Twitter, YouTube, and Reddit; experience working with content creators.
  • A proven ability to build and manage a large online global community and audience
  • Exceptional storyteller, both written and verbal; equally exceptional at understanding collectors, developing rapport, and building genuine community trust
  • Entrepreneurial and a hands-on style with a strong bias towards action while working effectively in an innovative environment that values collaboration without ego.
  • Comfortable working in a high-performance environment with a substantial degree of autonomy
  • Data-obsession a must; Ability to manage highly analytical team members and suite of tools including Google Analytics.
  • An open and collaborative attitude, focused on organizational excellence and facilitating an engaging and personalized customer experience with the brand.
  • Comfortable interpreting and leveraging data to drive large-scale decision-making 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments simultaneously, while executing projects autonomously.  Project management experience a plus.  
  • Skilled communicator that can present to senior leadership about vision, community developments, and team direction
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry is a plus as is broader experience across financial services in general.  
  • Passionate about collectibles market and ideally a collector themselves
